Filled with over 1,500 public parks, Bridgeport is nicknamed Park City. Seaside Park and Pleasure Beach are a couple of its most popular parks. Seaside Park stretches along Long Island Sound, Bridgeport Harbor and Black Rock Harbor for two-and-a-half miles. Pleasure Beach features a half-mile boardwalk that leads to the beach and a fishing pier. Bridgeport fishing dates back to the 17th century. During the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries, Bridgeport went through rapid growth and developed whaling and shipbuilding industries. By 1900, the city had a population of nearly 71,000 and reached a population of 158,000 by 1950 with many working in the fishing industry.

Bridgeport fishing can deliver a lot of quality fish, including Atlantic Croaker, Flounder, and Spotted Seatrout. Bottom fishing around Bridgeport produces Black Sea Bass, Scup (Porgies), and Tautog (Blackfish). Casting and trolling for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel in the Long Island Sound is popular among many anglers. For those that venture offshore, lots of Tuna and Sharks are available to target.
