Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Key Largo is a little slice of paradise. As the first of the Florida Keys, this island is poised in the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico just shy of the vast Atlantic Ocean. Along with the rest of the Florida Keys, Key Largo is a worldwide attraction, drawing people to its small shores for beach fun, diving and fishing. As you prepare for Key Largo fishing, here is what you need to know.
As an island, Key Largo is a prime fishing spot. In fact, it is an important part of the culture and commerce there. If you are visiting, you can definitely snag quite a few desirable fish on a good day out on the water. Many people opt for offshore fishing here, and the potential catches make it more than worthwhile. On a good day, you can expect to bring in Barracuda, Blackfin Tuna, Mahi-mahi, Kingfish and Wahoo. If you are looking for something more seasonal, then try Key Largo fishing in the spring and summer for Blue Marlin. During the winter, you will have a good chance of catching Sailfish.
If you go a little farther off the coast, you can get to some of the deeper waters. These choppy seas are not for everyone, but the deep-sea fishing here is excellent. Sometimes, you can even catch Swordfish in the area. For fishing in shallower waters, there are still plenty of possibilities. The reefs and shipwrecks around the island make for great destinations. In these areas, you might catch Amberjack, Sheepshead and different Grouper and Snapper species. On the shallow water flats, try your luck with Tarpon, Bonefish and Snook.
Other fish that populate these waters can include Cobia, King Mackerel and Red Drum. This variety and density ensure that the waters are always inviting for prime Key Largo fishing.
